The Chinese Food culture was organized on November 28th for the international student of NUPT. It was organized by the dean Professor Fang coordinated by Mr. Wu and Miss Lynn.
This Chinese food culture program was organized to teach the international student how to prepare some of Chinese foods, enjoy various varieties of Chinese food, create a community of togetherness and make merry together.
It started at 17:30hrs at canteen 1(Muslim canteen) the venue chosen for the event. There were Chinese cooks, teachers and student who began to teach the international student how to prepare dumplings.
To each table were the ingredients. For the wrappers we had flour, water, salt. This was shaped in circular disc.
Also for the filling, there was grinded pork, chicken and goat meat. Also were chopped shrimps, cabbage, onions, salt, cooking wine, white pepper, sesame oil and vegetable oil.
For preparation to begin the international students were taught to mix the fillings together. After the filling being mixed together, the flour is being cut into circular disc and fillings scooped onto each wrapper which is done by using a spoon. Afterwards the edges of each wrapper were watered with a damp finger. The sides are then folded together by crimping (pressing together) the dough with your fingers to seal the contents inside.
Depending on how the cook wishes to serve the guests on the dumpling menu, dumplings may contain vegetables, meat or a mixture of the two
The dumplings can be either boiled or fried as of your choice. The dumplings were boiled in boiling water. After it cooking, ready to-be-ate dumplings were transferred into plate and was served among ourselves.
There was the surprise of many other Chinese foods which were also served with the likes of beef, squid, peanuts, rice, noodles and various varieties of drinks.
